DON’T FORGET TO REMEMBER

Don’t forget to remember

We made it!

The boisterous merriment and frenetic busyness of the holidays have vanished.

A new year arrived, mercifully ushering in quiet days and a slower pace.

My Christmas tree and all the decorations are still up. Once fresh evergreen cuttings nestled throughout the house, drop their needles with the slightest brush. But the beauty of it all restrains me from dismantling everything.

In my mind, celebrations are to be embraced and enjoyed. Extracting every ounce of goodness, relishing each blessing, then wiping our still dripping chins with the final remains of the feast—content we have done what we set out to do—make merry.

Before Thanksgiving, I mentioned recording ‘miraculous moments’ throughout the year.

Well, I lit the candle, listened to the playlist, sipped a steaming mug of gingerbread spice tea, and began working through the list, but holidaying crowded in and I did not complete reviewing the notes.

This morning I grabbed the basket of unread notes and resumed savoring the documented incidents.

The small investment to jot down moments paid off big time.

Adding each note in chronological order by date brought another measure of wonder. Line by line, seeing God’s faithfulness stretching across the months brought tremendous comfort. Staggered when I remembered long-forgotten details, then saw the timing of each incident. No question—Divine timing.

After reading the list from beginning to end, I am confident jotting down moments as they occur is a worthy work. Perhaps you will give it a shot?

Not only will we celebrate each moment as they arrive this year, but reading and then recording in date order at the end may provoke profound praise.

Just a friendly reminder—don’t forget to remember.

I will remember the deeds of the Lord;

yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.

I will consider all your works

and meditate on all your mighty deeds.

Psalm 77:11-12 NIV

I remember the days of old; I meditate on all that you have done; I ponder the work of your hands.

Psalm 143:5 ESV

I will recount the steadfast love of the LORD, the praises of the LORD,

according to all that the LORD has granted us,

and the great goodness to the house of Israel that he has granted them according to his compassion,

according to the abundance of his steadfast love.

Isaiah 63:7 ESV

What do you think? Are you ready to record miraculous moments this year?
